NWSL Abroad: Weeks 4 and 5

Thanksgiving got us a little behind, but we are back to catch you up on what your NWSL favorites have been up to overseas the last few weeks

Week 4

Brisbane Roar 1 – 0 Adelaide United FC

Hayley Raso was the lone goal scorer as she netted the game winner in the 86th minute. Carson Pickett and Celeste Boureille also started for Brisbane, while Alyssa Mautz and Makenzy Doniak started for Adelaide.

Sydney FC 3 – 2 Melbourne City

Alanna Kennedy and Larissa Crummer both scored for Melbourne City, but it was not enough as Sydney scored in stoppage time to take the three points. Kennedy kicked off the scoring just before the half with a great header from a tough angle to put City up 1-0 but Sydney drew level early in the second half. Crummer put City out in front again in the 53rd minute, but they were unable to hang on and secure any points. Lauren Barnes, Steph Catley and Ashley Hatch also started, and put in strong performances for City.

Newcastle Jets 1 – 2 Canberra United

Toni Pressley not only made the scoresheet, but netted the game winner for Canberra with a close range header in the 65th minute. After going down 1-0 early in the match, Ashleigh Sykes leveled the score early in the second half before Pressley’s winning goal. Haley Kopmeyer had 5 saves and helped secure the win for Canberra. Britt Eckerstrom, Arin Gilliland and Katie Stengel started for Newcastle.

Perth Glory 3 – 1 Melbourne Victory

It was the Sam Kerr and Rachel Hill show as Perth defeated Victory by a score of 3-1. After a fairly uneventful first half, Natasha Dowie put Victory out front in the 53rd minute. Hill leveled the score a minute later and then a brace by Kerr sealed the deal for Perth, with Raquel Rodriguez picking up the assist on the second goal. Amanda Frisbie also started for Perth, continuing her run of some well-deserved time on the pitch.

Week 5

Canberra United 3 – 2 Perth Glory

Rachel Hill added to her impressive scoring tally as she tied the match up 1-1 at the end of the first half with a powerful shot into the upper right corner of the goal.
